Parametric Design + Optimization + Digital Fabrication

Custom CNC bender designed and fabricated by Parke MacDowell and Diana Tomova at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, spring 2010. Thanks to Wes McGee, TCAUP FabLab coordinator for his indispensable support and expertise.

The bender operates in tandem with the FabLab's kuka robot to produce custom, highly variable, precision-bent steel rod components. Interchangeable clamp and die assemblies allow for rod diameters between 1/4" and 3/8". Self-authored rhinoscript operator translates 3D linear geometry into bender/kuka choreography.

Many thanks to: Parke MacDowell
