The DAAP Rapid Prototyping Center (RPC) currently maintains a robust lab with powder printing, laser cutting and CNC mills to support the design and innovation efforts of faculty and students in Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. The RPC focuses on academic projects allowing faculty and students to experiment with new technologies in digital fabrication. As a collective whole, the RPC staff spends their time operating machines to produce academic projects and working directly with students and faculty to improve their capabilities in digital fabrication strategies and techniques.
This position will participate in the overall operation and administration of the Rapid Prototyping Center including, scheduling work flow through the lab, programming projects in preparation for CNC machining, operating the RPC equipment and developing training and teaching materials. This position requires excellent communication skills, strong skills in 3-D design and modeling as well as CNC machine operation. In addition to machine programming and operation, a major focus of this position will be the development of teaching and training resources documenting concepts, strategies, and details of digital fabrication for the design related professions. The development and management of this content involves working collaboratively with faculty in the various disciplines to produce high quality materials to help students navigate the complexities of the digital fabrication environment. Skills in updating a wiki based web site and technical writing are highly desirable as are strong design and organizational skills.
Official qualifications are as follows:
Masters degree in design related profession with 2 years of CNC experience
OR
Bachelors degree in design related profession with 5 years of CNC experience
AND
Computer Numerical Control machine operation experience
AND
3-D computer modeling experience

Proficiency with a variety of 3-D software (Rhino, Maya, SolidWorks, Alias, etc.)
CNC machining center operation experience
CNC programming using DelCAM PowerMill
3-D powder printer operation experience
Laser machining center operation experience
Computer-aided 3-D modeling experience
Web site and content management experience
Technical writing experience in developing training materials and tutorials
Proficiency with a variety of 3-D software (Rhino, Maya, SolidWorks, Alias, etc.)
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
Proficiency in 2-D vector based applications (AutoCAD etc.)
Background and proficiency in Graphic, Industrial or Architectural design.
Proficiency with photo and video editing strategies and software.
Digital photography experience.
Prior teaching experience in higher education
