Chuppa

Madam Studio's Chuppa, or jewish wedding pavilion, for two wedding events on either end of the Mediterranean. A Chuppa is a temporary structure made of four poles and a stretch of fabric, under which the couple is married together with their immediate relatives, and in front of all the other guests.

The couple stand with the rabbi in the central square (or crossing), while the parents stand in the jutting rectangles (or transepts) on either side, and the grandparents in the stretch of floor directly behind (or apse). After the act of union the pavilion was used for speeches and the giving of gifts and guest-book signing, which happened on a small table designed for the pavilion.

All the elements were manufactured and assembled in such a way that they will be reconstructed and reused as Architectural features and furniture for the couple's new home.

All design and drawing was done on Rhino4. Water-Jet cut rubber, Digital-dye Sublimation Printed silk, 4-axis machined, lathed and turned Walnut, oxidised steel and cross-laminated plywood.
