SUMMARY:LATTICE LAB: Topological Modeling + 3D Printing
DESCRIPTION:\nLATTICE LAB: Topological Modeling + 3D Printing | 2012 N
 ovember 17-18***New Date\nOverview: LATTICE LAB is a two-day workshop
on the topic of Topological/Subdivision Modeling with Paneling Tools
and Weaverbird. In a fast-paced and hands-on learning environment, we
will cover Fundamental Concepts related to Working with Mesh Geometry,
High-Order Topological Smoothing, and Grid-Based Modeling. Drawing in
spiration from the patterns found in 3-Dimensional Lattice Structures,
we will create geometrical units capable of responding to a range of
dynamic contexts. Additionally, we will explore the limits and opportu
nities of 3D Printing while testing the visual and structural effects
of our Lattices.\nFramework: Lab participants will learn how to create
, distribute, and smooth mesh elements through the Plug-Ins Paneling T
ools and Weaverbird for Rhinoceros. The Lab curriculum will include a
series of instructional lectures, lab exercises, and open work session
 s. Instructional lectures will serve to both introduce key concepts an
d spark discussion amongst the group. Modeled after carefully selected
case-studies, lab exercises are designed to make abstract technical c
oncepts concrete and applicable to creative professionals. Open work s
essions will offer participants time to develop individual design stud
ies with one-on-one assistance by the Lab instructors. In the LATTICE
LAB, participants will also be introduced to and work directly with o
ur ABS 3D Printer to produce design prototypes, moving quickly from di
gital design environments to material artifacts and back again. Partic
ipants from all creative fields and backgrounds are encouraged to atte
nd and lend their perspective to the Lab. As part of a larger online i
nfrastructure, modeLab, this workshop provides participants with cont
inued support and knowledge to draw upon for future learning.\n\nMore
