 r Carnaval culture within the decaying port of Rio de Janeiro, the bir
 th-place of Samba. This will allow us to negotiate with real-estate pr
 essures to relocate Carnaval float fabrication away from its current p
 ort location near the Sambod­romo. The design workshop will take plac
 e at the Pimpolhos Carnaval School port warehouse, collaborating with 
 local float designers and fabricators to invent a new type of interact
 ive Carnaval float that would redefine the relationship between fabric
 ation, performance and spectacle. Knowledge and expertise from local a
 rtisans will be combined with computational design and digital fabrica
 tion techniques such as Grasshopper associative design, process­ing, 
 and Arduino, as well as CNC and laser cutting technologies as a means 
 to con­ceive new float designs for the people of the Carnaval culture
