Mesa dc3 manual

Just picked up a DC-3 combo on ebay for $480. Good deal? What is the general consensus on this amp? Anyone try using the direct recording output? I own an '81 Mark IIB and bought this for a backup/effect rig. Also, I've tried the volume pedal in the return trick on my IIB and it doesn't work for me. Anyone know why? Thanks for any info. This has been my main amp since 1998, and I just picked up a 1977 Super Reverb, so this thing isn't seeing much use. It's has has some issues that have plagued it for many years.
