View Capstone-Research.pdf from BIOLOGY 123 at Kabankalan Catholic College ii ABSTRACT This paper presents a Bioplastic made with the mixture of corn starch and other eco-friendly ingredients. the results shows that the starch of Corn are one of the most promising raw materials in making biodegradable plastics. Bio-plastics are rapidly growing in popularity, and many new techniques and approaches are emerging as a result of intensive research and development (R&D) activities. Many industries worldwide are installing their new production capability. Bio-plastics have attracted political leaders' interest, especially in light of the evolving bio-economic orientation, through their use of PBAT is produced from 1,4-butanediol (1,4-BDO), terephthalate, and adipic acid. The bio-based adipic acid is not available yet for commercialization, and thus, PBAT can theoretically be up to 50% bio-based. Likewise, PBS is produced from 1,4-BDO and succinic acid, which can also theoretically be 100% bio-based [ 56 ]. Bioplastics are plastics that are either made from renewable resources ('bio-based'), are biodegradable, are made through biological processes or a combination of these. Some biodegradable but Image 1: Produced Bioplastics(a) Bioplastic 1, (b) Bioplastic 2. Source: Author. The thickness determined by direct measurement, using a caliper rule, was 0.04 mm for bioplastic 1 and 0.052 for bioplastic 2. This variation can be related to the way how the bioplastic was spread onto the Styrofoam surface. There are different combinations of ingredients that work to create biodegradable plastic. One list of ingredients you can use includes: 1 ml of white vinegar; 10 ml of distilled water; 1.5 g of cornstarch; 0.5-1.5 g of glycerol; 1-2 drops of food coloring (optional). Produced from vegetables, food by-products, or micro-organisms, bioplastics are preferable to oil-based printing materials, environmentally. They are also conventionally used in making items like Bioplastic can be applied in packaging industries, spray materials, appliance materials, electronic products, agricultural products, automation products, chemical media, and solvents. In the production of bioplastics, the interlinkage of biotechnology processes is a key strategy aimed at maximizing the use of food waste and increasing the potential revenue of the entire bioprocessing chain. Materials: —Shallow tray for drying (corrugated plastic works very well, which can be cut to desired size with 1 inch edges folded up to create a tray) Method: —60 ml water. —6 grams potato starch. —6 grams gelatin. —6 grams glycerin (3 grams makes a stiffer sheet) Directions: —Mix all ingredients well in a small pot. sustainable bioplastic material. It is organic and accessible, thus making it a candidate for innovation in the creation of bioplastic. Therefore, we believe that the use of water hyacinth is a potential bioplastic material that is beneficial to the environment and the community.
